polish

Nail polish that is.... so on my quest for a natural pregnancy book I came across a so called organic pregnancy book.  At first glance I thought that this could very well be the book I have been seeking... but upon further investigation I concluded that this book is more likely to make me crazy paranoid than to actually do anything positive for me.  I put the book down quickly enough... unfortunately it was not fast enough as I saw a paragraph on how dangerous nail polish can be to a pregnant woman.  I mean I just got a manicure and pedicure during my two week wait... and have since re-painted my nails... twice... how guilty did I feel!

My Mom reassured me that she had polished nails throughout both of her pregnancies and my sister and I turned out perfectly fine.  I believe her but I am crazy and now that I read that I just cannot keep wearing the regular OPI or Essie colour of choice.

So I did what any desperate to have polished nails that are not a health risk to my unborn baby woman would do and went to Lilou Organics... a local organic beauty store.

This is what I found...

I was quite happy to find something shimmery as this is what I was wearing that day...

  1. Congrats on the pregnancy! I'm barely pregnant as well so I totally get your worries. I'm glad you were able to find some healthy things for nail polish!

  2. Good for you! Both for putting the book down AND finding an organic nail polish.

I was actually looking for an organic nail polish and other cosmetic items, because in one of the books I've read on infertility it said that some chemicals in those items may contribute to infertility. Oh well....

  3. The list of things that "could" hurt a pregnancy or "cause" infertility are insane. While I do totally think that chemicals are bad for us and we need to be conscious of what we're putting on and in our bodies, I think that if we saw that list that could and cause we'd shit ourselves. Try not to get caught up in it, and read a reliable source of what to avoid, like "what to expect" or something like it. That will tell you the things that have been proved dangerous, rather than things that "could" be dangerous.

P.S. your nail polish is hot stuff :)

  4. Please do a review of it! A friend got some nail polish at the local organic store, but it stayed tacky and never really dried. :-P

I used to love OPI! You'll probably think them crazy-garish, but I loved the Alic in Wonderland special editions. Fun!

  5. I never heard that about nail polish during pregnancy but so glad you found one that is so sparkly and makes you breathe easy! Congrats on the pregnancy and thanks for stopping by my blog! Happy Holidays and ICLW!

  6. I'm pretty sure as long as you aren't painting your uterus with nail polish, you're fine ;-) Just ask your manicurist how many kids she has. (ICLW #52)

  7. The list of things to avoid is incredible. My mom smoked through her pregnancy with me and my sister and we turned out fine. (Minus my fertility issues, I guess.) And yet, when I was (briefly) pregnant, I felt guilty for eating a cheese of unknown origin! Happy Holidays to you.

  8. Here from ICLW. Congrats on the pregnancy and in time for the holidays! What a fun time to be enjoying pregnancy.

Thanks for posting about the nail polish. I don't know if I even would have thought of that. Good to know just in case I can get as far as you have. :-)

    Happy Holidays!

  10. Congratulations! The polish is very pretty. There is definitely a lot of conflicting information out there about what's good and bad during pregnancy, When I was pregnant with my twins, I got so anxious with all of the dr. Google stuff. I eventually just decided to put my trust in my OBGyn. She helped ease my mind about a lot of these questions (like coloring your hair, etc).
