I need one of those... this is soo good I'll forget that there is a million inches of snow out with no end in sight... types of books.
I mean I'm not that hard to please....
let me be more specific...
if the book involves real life tragedy... count me out
now if you were to find this book in oh the fantasy section or perhaps even the young adult section... you might just be on the right page.
give me a vampire + love triangle that I haven't read and you will have hit my jackpot.
so... read anything good lately?

I zipped through all three of the Hunger Games books and then read Divergent by Veronica Roth and loved it. I'm now reading "Across the Universe" by Beth Revis and so far, very good. I have all of these if you are interested in borrowing :)
ReplyDeleteMy all time favourite series is "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon.
I have to respond to that--the outlander series is my absolute favorite too. I've probably reread each of them 4 or 5 times over the years, and I always discover something new. I adore Diana Gabaldon! These are absolutely worth reading and you never want to put them down.
DeleteI have had several patients who tote these books around. We always have very enthusiastic conversations when we discover that we both love them. The series is lengthy, so it's rare to find people who've read them all. Great recommendation!
hmmm I read Hunger Games and didn't love them but Andrew's reading them now and I get the updates from him and am looking forward to the first movie. I might take you up on Divergent Janet but now that everyone is talking about the Outlander series maybe I should check that out first.
DeleteOne for the Money was a cute movie. I'm reading the book now. It's a huge series (18 books, I think) by Janet Evanovitch.
ReplyDeletewow 18 books... love good books in a long series!
DeleteEscape - Carolyn Jessop (real life story about a woman's escape from the FLDS cult)
ReplyDeleteBirth House - Amy McKay (a story about a midwife and the role they currently play based on past events)
Virgin Cure - Amy McKay (a story about a girl who does her best to escape the life that she thought she was destined to, during a time when it was once thought that being with a "virgin" would cure disease)
Sarah's Key - Tatiana de Rosnay (during WW2 in France, a little girl's family is taken by the French Nazi group, and she hides her brother inside a special closet and only she has the key) - very compelling
Secret Daughter - Shilpi Somaya Gowda (a woman gives birth to a baby and leads her husband to believe that she has killed it, since daughters are unwanted in their culture, instead she puts the baby up for adoption....)
All are amazing, can't put down books! Enjoy!
thanks for the long detailed list! I fear that some of them will stress me out but that Escape book could be interesting for a sunny day.
DeleteHave you read "The Help" yet? So good.
ReplyDeleteI haven't. I have it here and I started it but couldn't get into it. Maybe it deserves a second chance?
DeleteThe Hunger Games (all three) are a must. Anything by Jodi Picoult but those can be a little sad sometimes.
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine reads the Jodi Picoult books but I fear the sadness!
DeleteI just picked up Bringing Up Bebe. It's pretty good so far!
ReplyDeleteThe Phillipa Greggory books. The ones based on the Henry Tudor era. These are loosely based on history, but they are soooo good!
ReplyDeleteDon't let the movie the other boelyn girl ruin it for you, the books are amazing! Start with the constant princess.
I just started reading The Help and love it so far!! I haven't watched the movie yet either.
ReplyDeletePlease please please read Shattered Souls by Mary Lindsey. Young adult, fantasy, love triangle. All boxes checked! And she's in the process of writing a sequel, so it's like a two-fer!
ReplyDeleteYou've peaked my interest. Young adult, fantasy, love triangle... bingo!! Have you read Discovery of Witches?
DeleteCompletely mindless and fun: Whistlin' Dixie in a Noreaster. I think it made me dumber, but it was entertaining.
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying the Dragonprince Trilogy by Aaron Pogue. The second book was just released in December. Pogue has an interesting take on the world of magic that I enjoy (not too in your face like HP, for example). And yes, dragons are in the series, but not in a cheesy way.
ReplyDeleteThe Thirst series by Christopher Pike. A 500 year old teenage vampire. What more can you ask? I loved them!!!
ReplyDeleteJacqueline Carey's Kushiel trilogy (and the two trilogies after it set in the same world) - fantasy/alternative history
ReplyDeleteRobin Hobb's Assassin's trilogy (and the assorted other trilogies in the same world)
Lois McMaster Bujold's Miles Vorkosigan series (lots of books, space opera, fabulous main character)
As others have mentioned, Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series is great.
I also love to read so had to see what others had suggested. Are you on goodreads.com? It's a great way to see what books your friends have read and might suggest and also to keep track of the books you really enjoyed. I'm currently reading One Moment, One Morning by Sarah Rayner and really like it, but I'm just about a 1/3 of the way into it but started off quickly and has been interesting since. Other books I've ready and really enjoy...
ReplyDeleteThe Help (you should definitely think about trying it again, LOVED this book)
Wildflower Hill by Kimberley Freeman (love, love, loved this book & so did everyone in my book club...which does not happen often)
Then Came You by Jennifer Weiner (one character goes through IVF, one is a surrogate, and another is an egg donor...interesting perspective and there is a bit of a triangle, fictional but really enjoyed the author bringing more awareness to these types of ART)
Sister by Rosamund Lupton (fast paced thriller)
The Weight of Silence by Heather Gudenkauf & These Things Hidden (another of her books)
Happy Reading:)
