I do.
Often.
I grew up a 10 minute drive from where we currently live. 10 minutes. After graduating from university I had the... let's move to Toronto talk with Andrew and I know he wasn't too keen and in the end I wasn't either. The cost of living is cheaper here, it was easier to start out on our own here and while I love visiting Toronto... love love it... I still love coming back home here... where it's quiet and doesn't cost us a complete fortune to live.
but I am restless.
But moving would be a big deal. And that doesn't bother me. But it does bother Andrew. I just can't fathom living here forever. I mean it's not like we have it bad. At all. But this is all we know and I just think that an adventure is in order... someday... sooner than later. I crave the ocean, and mountains... perhaps both. We joke about it often with our close friends... that we should just all pick up and move somewhere... open a coffee shop... and chill by the ocean. Part of me hopes that this doesn't have to be a joke forever.
Am I alone in this... or do you think about this too? Where would you like to move... realistically... because sure I would move to mexico... but not really. Where would you really, actually like to move to?

I am always thinking about moving. One day I want to live in a condo in the city, the next day northern CA, the next Arizona.
ReplyDeleteIt just seems nice to think about starting fresh and being spontaneous!
I even have the exact same open-a-coffee-shop-together joke with my friends! Although I have to say that I'm not that crazy about moving myself, considering I've moved six times in the last year, and am looking forward to settling down more than anything.
ReplyDeletewow six times in one year, i'd want to stay put too!
Deletewe are not thinking of moving, but we are thinking of traveling. all the time. so much so that once the renos are done, we will dedicate a very sizable portion of our income to trips. we've going to mexico all inclusive for a wedding in a few weeks, but already planning trips to: california, hawaii, europe (always and forever) and uzbekistan (don't ask :). I like Ottawa for the quiet, but I would give up my house for a condo in Westboro in a heartbeat. maybe in another 7-10 years.
ReplyDeletethe thing is, we have good jobs we enjoy here in Ottawa, and that's something that we're not willing to give up. i just wish we had more vacation leave! :)
PS. great places to live have usually very poor job prospects, think Portugal and Spain OR great job prospects (like NYC) but too hectic of a lifestyle (for us). Ottawa seems like a great alternative.
i'd take a house in westboro! one of the charming ones... not the rebuilt stark ones! jobs are the tricky issue indeed but seeing as I just quit mine I am a tad bit more flexible!
DeleteFunny you mention moving to Toronto. We (who live in the GTA) talk about moving to your neck of the woods all the time. We should trade places!
ReplyDeleteyeah I do love Toronto but I still wouldn't want to move there. You guys have a rough cost of living (well living the way I would want to do it). You should come this way. It's not a bad place at all. I just crave change.
DeleteI can relate to craving changes. And yes, the cost of living is stupid here. We actually live in Guelph, where it's a bit more reasonable than Toronto.
DeleteOh I think about this often! :-) To live in other cultures and experience it all. I personally would love to live in a teepee and then travel to Amish country to live for awhile.
ReplyDeletewell aren't you quite the adventurous bunch!
DeleteABSOLUTELY!!! My DREAM is to move to Tuscany and live on a vineyard! I lived in Italy during college and it is my favorite place EVER! However, where ever we go, we always dream of buying a second house there... especially Kauai! I love the slow pace island life!
ReplyDeleteMOVE TO STRATFORD ONTARIO. Then, you'll be close to me when I'm in Toronto, and even closer when I'm at STRATFORD.
