Today is day 9 of NaNoWriMo. As of this morning I've typed 15059 words. I am ahead.
1- I love it.
2- I don't remember when I last felt this good.
3- I didn't outline.
4- I had a rough idea, stemming from a feeling and I went with it.
5- I still have major holes that I will need to figure out.
6- But I'm confident that it will come to me.
7- I have no chapters
8- I'll figure them out in December
9- Starting was hard, but not as hard as I thought it would be.
10- I've been stuck, writer's block, whatever you want to call it
11- Twitter word sprints saved me (they say go and you type with all of your might until time's up, and it does just come to you)
12- I was petrified that it would be impossible to meet the word counts.
13- I've had one hard day (Monday). The other days weren't necessarily easy but the words really do come to you.
14- I look forward to retreating to the desk in the basement, tea and candle in tow
15- I don't reach for a glass of wine after the girls go down
16- Okay I might sound like an alcoholic. What I mean is that I have something going on for myself and it makes me happy, and preoccupied enough that I don't even remember the wine
17- This, all of this craziness, it soothes me
18- I still think about this pep talk, what she said about not wanting to finish a book quickly because the characters will be people in your head and you won't want to leave them. I feel this way.
19- I went to a write in last night (which is what happens when you meet up with other NaNoWriMo participants to write). It was at starbucks. They'd all done this before. They were curious as to why I decided to do it. I told them the truth, that ever since I read about it here more than two years ago, I've had an itch. And now I'm scratching it.
20- Secret: I don't think this itch is ever going to go away... now that I've started.
Do you have fun plans for the weekend? I hope you have a wonderful time, whatever you do.
I'll be here, at this desk...writing.

Good for you. I think as a mom it is sometimes easy to lose yourself. Especially a SAHM and especially someone who has gone through IF.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you found what makes you happy, you deserve it!!!!
Sounds like you are totally loving this process. Hourray for you, Ashley!
ReplyDeleteAshley, I have goose bumps reading this post. This is how I felt when I started painting on the regular basis :) I'm so happy for you! This is a real gift in your life and those around you! Enjoy! xox
ReplyDeleteMaybe I needed to read this today? I don't know. My story is NOT going well and I'm still nicely on track and only missed my word count once, but it's like I was running on the boardwalk, then the sand, and now I'm in the water. Does that analogy make any sense? Anyway, it's oddly encouraging and inspiring that it's going well for you. We will persevere!
ReplyDeletePS. I have no chapters either.
PPS. How distracting was the write-in? I loved the one I went to last week, but they were not easy words to come by!
Yes we will persevere!
DeleteAnd yes... SUPER distracting, just squeaked in my word count.
Was nice to get out and write though. I think I will be heading to starbucks solo tonight.
so proud and excited for you, lovebug!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouragement ladies!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear what the story is about! Will we be able to read it?
